Cee Bailey's Seating Systems

CUSTOM SEAT RECUSHIONING SYSTEM

In the motorcycling community we are known primarily for our "Premium Windshields" and lately for our "Top Quality" Saddle Bag Liners, but what is not known is that Cee Bailey's has been producing quality aircraft seating, interior and cockpit organizational products for the aviation industry for many years. Some items go under the Cee Bailey name, but we manufacture most products and private label these goods for other companies.

Our initial work on seating comfort has its roots in government research and analysis of flight crew seats. Data is available in support of methods that reduce back pain and achieve comfort in long-term aircrew seating. In keeping with the high standards of development and manufacturing of lumbar support backrests, we use these same methodologies and principles while crafting our ergonomically sound motorcycle seats.

We started manufacturing motorcycle seats when law enforcement customers would walk by our upholstery staff (Picking up a windshield, etc.) and asked if we could help with their miserable seat on the work bike. Starting with one CHP bike almost a year ago, word of mouth has been spreading around Southern California about our seats and we have been doing them since without a break. Since Law Enforcement bikes are working all day, who better than motor officers to give us their feedback on what works for them as they spend 8-10 hours a day in the saddle. A year of "fine tuning" the product has allowed us to provide an optimum ergonomic design for most riders.

We developed our law enforcement "motorfoam" process by working with different agencies on their BMW RT and Kawasaki motors. We start the process by assessing a prebuild questionnaire that the rider is asked to fill out before we begin. With the riders data in hand we start the process by trimming and hand sanding our custom manufactured molded foam cores for baseline RT seat applications. Then, using the standard BMW seat pan, we hand fit the "motorfoam" core to the seat pan platform. We then utilize varying structure support materials to build up the seat for longevity, posture and comfort. The next step is to apply NASA developed Confor visco-elastic foam in various densities to stabilize, cushion and support the weight of a motor officer and his ancillary riding gear. We finish the process by applying a polyfoam jacket on the seat, and recover using standard BMW type vinyl on the seat cover.

We now offer a very similar approach to civilian riders who would like to have the comfort of a seat that will perform for hours upon end, without the discomfort associated with stock seats. The result is a seat that redistributes your body weight more evenly over a larger surface area, which enhances long-term comfort and virtually eliminates hot spots
that are associated with stock motorcycle seats. Our recushioning system establishes the rider in a proper, comfortable riding position. The Confor foam is pressure and temperature sensitive, and "reads" body temperature and pressure and shapes to the person using a lateral creep process. Its low rebound action permits blood to flow constantly, preventing ischemia, or that burning sensation known as "monkey butt". We work with standard materials in more effective ways than other manufacturers through complex and effective product designs. You simply cannot replace "bad" material with "good" material to fix a seat problem. All seats are customized for each rider, there is no "one size fits all" which would make the manufacturing easier for us.

Seats can be ordered in solo or dual configurations, and we stock over 35 colors of marine grade vinyl in addition to black choices. Leather is also available at an additional cost.

Heated seats are also an option that can be ordered for the solo position. Heated seats feature simple installation of the on/off switch, and easy fuse box hardware.

Note: Seats will take between 8-20 hours for break-in of the materials to be effective for the rider. The "Space age visco-elastic memory foam" is heat sensitive, and in temperatures of 50 degrees and below, will be very hard until your body heat warms the foam up to temperature. This normally takes 3-10 minutes depending on outside air temperature. Some riders might require a custom adjustment (generally in the inner thigh area) for a completely comfortable position. We make these adjustments at no extra charge.

We do ask that all prospective buyers fill out our seat survey so that we may be able to build the most comfortable and ergonomically sound seat available today.

Rain covers: all seats can be ordered with custom slip on raincovers manufactured with Dupont high quality spunlaced breathable fabric.

Leather or vinyl

All new motorcycles come from the factory with vinyl, some are of less quality vinyl than others. BMW uses marine grade vinyl on most of their newer bikes, and we stock all of their vinyls for each bike make. Vinyl is very durable and forgiving, and has built in elastomers for pliability and reduces weather cracking, and is almost carefree. Cleaning is easy, just wash with your normal washing solution when you wash your bike. It also is water resistant, but the holes in the stitching can admit water to the foam. Vinyl does not breath, as with leather, so it will insulate your body heat, resulting in a hotter seat. All of the vinyl we use is marine grade, which is one of the best and most costly vinyl materials in the upholstery business.

Sheepskin Covers

Leather is an option on all seats, and the choice of many aftermarket cruiser seat companies, and many riders. It is more expensive then vinyl, but if cared for regularly, will give you many years of comfort. It conforms easily to your body shape after time, and is permeable, which allows heat and humidity to transfer into the seat, which will keep your anatomy cooler in the hotter months. Like your older leather jacket, it gets more comfortable as it ages. It does require more care than vinyl, regular cleaning with saddle soap will keep the leather looking nice and supple, and semi annual applications of water repellant such as mink oil should be used on the seat. You should also take care of the leather seat in rain soaked conditions, not allowing the seat to become wet soaked so it can absorb water. Use a rain cover when not riding if left in the rain, and allow the seat to dry out in warm area, with no direct sunlight. Please call to inquire on exotic leather skins.

Lead-time

Normal lead-time is 2 - 3 weeks once the order is taken or seat pans have been received. Special non-stock colors or exotic leather may take up to two weeks for shipment.

All prices quoted are using the customer provided seat pan(s). We do have a core pool of seat pans that we can build up in advance according to the customer specifications and print & fill out our Questionnaire. This method (advance exchange) will save the customer the inconvenience of sending in their own seat pans and waiting for the seats to be sent back to them. Please check on availability of set pans when ordering. We will not build a seat without the required questionnaire. The refundable core charge will be charged to the customer, and refunded when the original seat pans are returned to our facility within three weeks. Please use the original box and packaging to return your old seat pans to us. We provide the packing tape for this purpose.

*These prices are for most late model (1994 & UP) BMW motorcycles, excluding the K1200LT. Add 150.00 for the LT, and stock heating will be retained. Other makes can be quoted on request.
